The area known as East Veneto 'Basso Piave' includes several towns of the province of Venice besides Jesolo and Eraclea, among which the following:
San Donà di Piave It is the main town of the area with its 30.000 inhabitants. Entirely rebuilt at the end of the 1st World War, it is today a considerable industrial town. Halfway through the 19th cent. it promoted the private initiative in the reclamation work through the 'drainage cooperatives', which brought about a deep transformation both of the landscape and of the economy.
Ceggia - Just past San Dona' di Piave on the main road 14 towards Portogruaro, it is a small town with about 5000 inhabitants, also known as 'the Viareggio of Veneto' because of its colourful Carnival, rich in allegorical floats.
Fossalta di Piave - Ernest Hemingway was wounded in a meander of the Piave river named 'Buso Burato' and never forgot Fossalta, in fact he visited it many times afterwards, drawing inspiration from there for its pages, especially those of 'A Farewell to Arms'. Nowadays the village is a modern residential centre.
Meolo This small town was the scene of one of the most dramatic pages in the first world war: the bloody battle that marked in 1918 the last Austrian effort. Today the town is an agricultural and above all a wine-growing and producing centre.
Musile di Piave On the right bank of the Piave river, opposite to San Donà di Piave, this small town has known a considerable development in the modern agricolture as well as in the handicraft and industrial activities. During the summer the town centre get lively throogh several nice and interesting events as concerts and theatre performances.
Torre di Mosto It is a small agricultural town characterized by a handicraft and also industrial economy. Its cultural roots and traditions are well represented by the local Museum of the rural world.
Noventa di Piave The peculiarities od its soil, so rich often assure exceptional harvests, make it one modern agricultural centre. The numerous cultural events find in Summer their fascinating scenary in the park of magnificent 19th-century villa Ca' Zorzi.
